Knocknagoshel 0-9 Austin Stacks 0-13

In Knocknagoshel today, the rain decided to take a break for a small while and let the 2 teams play out this close encounter.

Knocknagoshel were again missing some key players such as James Walsh and Padraig Reidy for this League match and they paid the price suffering another defeat in a tight match.

Austin Stacks started well with a point from center forward Dukes. Knocknagoshel hit back with a wonderful score from wing back Cillian O'Connor. Stacks corner forward Cian Liston then chipped over from close range. Stacks dominated possesion but were finding it hard to get scores. Stacks star man Dale Counihan was a constant threat with his running ability and his took his chances and kicked 3 very similar first half points as Stacks looked to recycle the ball around Knock's defence. Stacks wing forward was then black carded for dissent. Kieran Downey kicked a 45' to keep Knock in touch and then a quick free ended up in a point for Niall Barrett. Stacks midfielder Denis O'Neill ran through the middle to kick Stacks 3 points in front again. Micheal Walsh closed the gap again but just before the break Stacks kicked another point to keep a goal between the team at the break.

Knock started the second half well and were starting to get on top in midfield and with the breaks. They clawed the game back with points from Kieran Downey and Niall Barrett. Stacks kept coming back and through Dale Counihan they pulled away again. A point from a Stacks substitute and 2 more from Counihan gave them a cushion going into the final quarter. Knock had some goal chances after some high balls in caused havoc in the Stacks defence but could not get the goal they needed. Dan Roche was then balack carded for more dissent and this made the comeback more difficult again. A Dale Counihan free from close range pushed the gap out again. Knock again fought back with a Micheal Walsh point and another long range Kieran Downey free but the game was closed out with another close range Counihan point. A disappointing day for Knock but Stacks deserved the win. It finished Knocknagoshel 0-9 Austin Stacks 0-13

They had the match winner in Counihan whose tireless running caused the Knock defence huge problems. He finished up with a total of 7 points.
