Knocknagoshel 2-9 Cromane 1-9

Knocknagoshel came out on top in a fierce battle under lights in Tralee on Friday night. It stayed relatively dry for the duration of the match and the pitch in Caherslee was in good condition given the heavy rain over the last few days.

Knocknagoshel kicked off the scoring with wonderful worked team move ending up with a Padraig Reidy point after 4 minutes played. Cromane hit back with a point from corner forward Devon Flaherty. Then Knock had a goal chance after a great run from Conor Sheehan but he could manage a point but he would make up for it in the 12th minute after a scramble around the Cromane penalty area Sheehan came up with the ball and hit it low into the Croman net. Cromane responded well with a point right away by Liam Teahan and then Sean O’Sullivan showed his class with a marvellous free from the sideline to leave 2 points between the sides after 15 minutes. A James Walsh free put a goal between the sides before Sean O Sullivan hit 2 points which could very easily have been 2 goals. Again Knock pushed ahead with a John O’Keefe point and another James Walsh free. Sean O’Sullivan hit his 4th point of the half just before the half time whistle to leave the half time score Knocknagoshel 1-5 Cromane 0-6.

Again Knock started the brighter in the second half with another James Walsh point. Cromane replied with a free from Devon Flaherty. Padraig Reidy, who caused Cromane trouble all day kicked another point to open up a 3 point lead before a crazy 5 miunte spell saw Knock down to 13 men. Knock captain Michael Brosnan and James Walsh were both dismissed harshly. This left Knock with a uphill battle having to play 18 minutes of the second half with 13 men. Cromane struggled to breakdown Knocknagoshel who filtered back in numbers and tackled and worked relentlessly off the ball to keep them out. But as to be expected they closed the gap with points from Mike Houlihan and Paul O’Sullivan. Cromane dominated possession but a Knock breakaway gifted Cillian O’Connor a chance on goal and he rattled the net for a crucial score and a hammer blow to Cromane. Knock pushed on to close out the game and scored 2 more points from Michael Walsh and again one from Padraig Reidy. Cromane scored a consolation goal right at the death through Emmet Casey but it was too little too late as Knock held on for a very impressive victory.

Cromane now sit winless after 3 games having been fancied for promotion and Knock have quickly recovered from a poor loss to Tuosist with back to back wins.

It was a real team effort from this young Knocknagoshel team but Conor Sheehan and especially Padraig Reidy who kicked 3 points from centre back stood up and lead by example both in defence and attack. The County League will now take a back seat to Championship for a few weeks.
