Knocknagoshel 0-13 Rathmore B 5-13

It was a perfect evening for football in Knocknagoshel. Knock were understrength again and without the Walsh brothers for the 3rd game in a row. They started as well as could be expected after winning the throw in a long diagonal ball from John O’Keeffe found Padraig Reidy who kicked it straight over the bar. Rathmore hit back with 2 points from Steven Lehane and a free from Kenneth O’Keeffe. Knock dominated midfield in the early stages but were punished when they turned over the ball leading to further points from Lehane and O’Riordan(2). Knock hit back with points from Cillian O’Connor and John O’Keeffe. Then Rathmore got their first goal. A high ball into the square was flicked into the net by O’Keeffe. Knock responded well with 2 Niall Barrett points one from play and one from a free. A sloppy kick pass around the midfield led to a Rathmore breakaway and wing back Tommy Sheehan rattled the net for Rathmore second goal. John O’Keeffe and John Hickey exchanged points then before Lehane kicked over the final point of the half to leave the half time score Knocknagoshel 0-6 Rathmore 2-7.
Rathmore came out the traps very quick and within 5 minutes the game was over as a contest, 2 quick fire goals from Jack Reen and Michael O’Riordan. Rathmore were getting on top around the middle and showed the class with 3 more points. Knock were tired but they battled hard and a superb Niall Barrett free got them off the mark in the second half. Cillian O’Connor kicked another from long range. Rathmore got their final goal after another breakaway through Reen again. Knock substitute Daniel Leahy made an instant impact with 2 incisive runs leading to 2 points. Rathmore reeled off a few more points. Shane O’Connell kicked 2 frees from Knock and full back John Brosnan made a run up the pitch and kicked a wonderful point. Rathmore just had too much firepower up front for Knock and ran out easy winners on a scoreline of 0-13 to 5-13.
Brian O’Leary and John Hickey were outstanding or Rathmore and supplied their forwards with great ball and they did they damage from there. Knock played some nice football at times but couldn’t keep up with Rathmore. Referee was Jim O’Connor from Scart.
