Knocknagoshel 0-14 Sneem/Derrynane 1-7

Sneem/Derrynane travelled the long journey to Knocknagoshel for the second time in two months but the outcome was the same as the opening round of the novice with the home side victorious again.

Knocknagoshel got a good start with points from Edmund Walsh, James Walsh and Niall Barrett to put them 0-3 to 0-0 ahead. The visitors got their first score from a free by Morgan O'Donoghue and it was followed by an Ian Galvin point from play. Both players were threatening when in possession but opportunities were limited as Knocknagoshel dominated the middle third of the field throughout. Michael White was their only other scorer in the game with a first half point while Knocknagoshel had further points from Edmund and James Walsh, Dan Roche and Mike Murphy. Half time score was 0-7 to 0-4.

The home side looked in confident mood in the start of the second half as the lead was stretched to 6 points with Niall Barrett, Kieran Downey and Edmund Walsh contributing. In fairness Sneem/Derrynane never let the heads drop and matched the home side from here to the finish. With the scores standing at 13 points to 7 with five minutes remaining Ian Galvin pulled a rabbit out of the hat with a bullet of a shot that deflected of a defenders leg into the bottom corner of the net. Edmund Walsh quickly quenched any further hopes of a comeback with a long range point from the left wing to leave the final score 0-14 to 1-7 in favour of the home side.
