Knocknagoshel 0-10 Valentia 1-6

Knocknagoshel gained two valuable league points when they overcame Valentia by the slimmest of margins in Knocknagoshel on Sunday last. Both sides were missing key players with the visitors having no substitutes available to call on. Valentia started the brighter with a pointed free from John Shanahan followed by a point from play by their full forward Stephen Sheehan. It took Knocknagoshel a while to settle and their first score came from a Niall Barrett free in the seventh minute. He followed it with a point from play in the fourteenth minute to level matters. The crucial score of the half came minutes later when a long ball in broke kindly to Ger Lynch and he rattled the net from close range to put Valentia in the driving seat. Niall Barrett soon replied for Knocknagoshel with a long range point from play. The visitors extended their lead to four points with a John Shanahan free and a point from play by Kieran Donoghue. Knocknagoshel narrowed the gap to two before half time through a free from Niall Barrett and a point from play from midfielder Conor Sheehan.

Knocknagoshel started the second half with more urgency and had the scores level after two minutes with a pointed free and a point from play both coming from the boot of Niall Barrett. The visitors weren't ready to wilt and moved two points in front in the tenth minute courtesy of long range points from Stephen Sheehan and John Shanahan. Niall Barrett then reduced the deficit to one when he slotted over after good work by Michael Brosnan of Knocknagoshel. With the game entering the closing stages it was Padraig Reidy of Knocknagoshel who stepped up to take control of matters and he swung over two points in the space of two minutes after great runs from his centre back berth. Valentia had a chance to level from a free but it dropped short and was cleared by the Knocknagoshel defence and so they held on at home to gain their first brace of county league points.
