Junior Championship vs Tuosist

posted 3 May 2016, 02:11 by Shane O'Connell

After Tuosist inflicted a heavy defeat on Knocknagoshel in the first round of the county league, the North Kerry men were out for revenge today and eventually got what they wanted after a real tough championship battle in Willie Walsh Park Knocknagoshel.

It only took Knock’s talisman James Walsh 4 minutes to open the scoring with a point. A few minutes later, Tuosist’s danger man Mike Tim O’Sullivan responded. Shortly after came the game’s first goal. After a great team move with some quick hand passing Conor Sheehan was brought down when through on goal and the referee James O’Sullivan awarded a penalty for Knock. James Walsh stepped up and put too much power in his shot despite Peter Healy’s best effort in the Tuosist goal. Mike Tim O’Sullivan and James Walsh exchanged points in quick sucession. Then Marcus McNally managed to get free and close the gap. Padraig Reidy then stormed up the pitch from wing back and kicked a fine score. Tuosist responded again through 2 points from Mike Tim O’Sullivan, one from play and one free. A wonderful Niall Barrett point from the corner was to be Knock’s last score before Tuosist took over at the end of the first half and hit four points in the final minutes of the first half through wing back Ryan Fitzpatrick, 2 more Mike Tim O’Sullivan frees and a great solo effort from the Flor O’Sullivan. Half Time score Knocknagoshel 1-4 Tuosist 0-9.

Mike Tim O’Sullivan picked up where he left off with a close range free 2 minutes into the second half. Niall Barrett hit back with another great score soon after. Again another Mike Tim O’Sullivan free kept distance between the teams. Knock then went on a run and hit 5 points in a row through John O’Keeffe, Michael Walsh, Padraig Reidy and 2 more from James Walsh, one from play and one free. Knock were dominating at this point and a black card for the Tuosist wing forward helped their cause. Tuosist then hit them with a sucker punch after they broke and Mike Tim O’Sullivan rattled the Knock net.  This Knock team not for the first time this year showed unbelievable heart to keep coming back at Tuosist and were rewarded when James Walsh equalised with a beautiful point with the outside of his boot. It was Walsh again who was the hero kicking the winner with only minutes remaining after a great team move from Knock. They held out to claim a massive victory and move on to play local rivals Scartaglen in the next round.

The club’s two star players really stepped up for their teams today with James Walsh hitting 1-6 and Mike Tim O’Sullivan hitting 1-8. Other to stand out were John Brosnan in the Knock defence and there was a great battle in midfield between Darragh O’Connell and Flor O’Sullivan.
