Novice Championship 1st Round vs Asdee

Played in Willie Walsh Park, Knocknagoshel, it was Asdee who had the brighter start with points from Paul O’Carroll and Darren Russell in the 2nd and 8th minutes. Knocknagoshel’s response, however, was immediate with a goal from Shane O’Connell in the 10th minute, a goal from Aeneas McAuliffe in the 13th minute, a point from Dan Roche in the 18th minute & a penalty converted by Edmond Walsh in the 19th minute. Noel Long and Paul O’Carroll scored two points in succession for Asdee but Edmond Walsh responded with two points for Knocknagoshel to leave the ahead by 3-03 to 0-04 at the short whistle.


Immediately following the restart, James Walsh and Edmond Walsh converted frees for Knocknagoshel before Eoin Kennedy, Charles Dalton and Darren Russell countered for Asdee with points in the 3rd, 4th and 5th minutes respectively. A Niall Barrett point for Knocknagoshel in the 6th minute was cancelled out by a point from Eoin Kennedy of Asdee in the 7th minute. An Edmond Walsh point was quickly followed by a Niall Barrett goal to leave Knocknagoshel comfortably ahead in the 11th minute of the half. Asdee, however, refused to throw in the towel and scored the next three points of the contest from the boots of Eoin Kennedy, Padraig Ruddle & Michael Walsh. Knocknagoshel kicked 11 wides in a row until Aeneas McAuliffe had the final score of the match with a point in the 32nd minute to leave the home side victorious on a score line of 4-08 to 0-11. Referee was Mike Moriarty of Keel.
